Kohlrabi Growing Information
Brassica oleracea var. Gongylodes
Direct Seed: After danger of frost when soil temperature is a minimum of 55° F
Transplant: During cool months in spring or fall in northern climates, and through winter in southern climates. Seed at ½” depth, 3-4 weeks before desired transplant date. Soil temperature for germination is 55-75° F.
Spacing: Sow seeds every 2” at ½" depth. Thin or set transplants at 4-6" apart in rows 12-18".
Growth needs: Grows best in fertile soil and cool weather. Irrigate regularly for best growth and flavor.
Harvest: When at desired size to bunch with tops or cut tops to store as bulbs. Varieties that are bred to grow larger will store better.
Storage: Remove tops and store in plastic for 3-4 weeks. Larger storage varieties can store for 2-3 months. Store at 36° F at 95% relative humidity.
