Eggplant Growing Information
Solanum melongena
Transplant: Start indoors 8-12 weeks before last frost at ¼” depth. Soil temperature for germination is 75-90° F. Seeds will not germinate in cool soil. Transplant after last frost once daytime temperatures are at least 65° F.
Spacing: 18-24” apart in rows 24-36” apart.
Growth needs: Prefers well-drained, sandy loam soil. Eggplant are heavy feeders that require fertilization and high organic matter, but too much nitrogen can encourage excess foliage.
Harvest: When fruit are of size and skin is glossy. Harvest regularly to encourage higher yields.
Storage: 50-55° F with 90% relative humidity for up to one week.
