Brussels Sprouts Growing Information
Brassica oleracea var. gemmifera
Transplant: Start in trays 4-6 weeks before desired transplant date at ¼” deep. Soil temperature for germination is 55-75° F.
Spacing: 15-24" in rows that are 18-36" apart.
Growth needs: Keep plants well irrigated with good fertility. Plant multiple varieties with different maturity dates to extend your harvest season.
Harvest: Snap sprouts starting at bottom of the stalk when they are dense and of desired size. Smaller sprouts higher on the stalk will continue to grow. If whole stalk harvest is desired, top plants by removing top growth points when bottom sprouts are about ¾” wide. Harvest of full stalk will be about 4 weeks after topping. Flavor is best after the plants have experienced a frost.
Storage: Store at 32° F at 95% humidity for 3-6 weeks.
