Painted Mountain produces uniform ears in a rainbow of colors that vary from ear to ear. Unwrapping each ear is a joyful surprise. Although it is grown mostly for ornamental purposes, it can also be eaten as hominy or ground into extremely soft flour. Painted mountain corn can also be an efficient source of food for livestock, with it's soft starch and lack of woodiness for easier digestion.  Short, stout plants matured two weeks before other ornamental varieties and performed well west of the Cascades. This corn is known to perform well in stressful climates and diverse environments compared to other corns.

"Painted Mountain is descended from over 70 Native corns rescued from Indians and homesteaders who lived in the harshest climates of the northern Rockies and Great Plains regions of the US and Canada." - Dave Christensen, Painted Mountain corn breeder.
