| Austrian Winter Field Pea |
 |
This winter cover crop can be planted in September. It can be mixed with winter rye or Triticale to help with weed suppression. It produces a great deal of organic matter that is easily plowed under in spring. |
| Buckwheat |
 |
A common summer cover crop. Grows quickly to suppress weeds and attract bees and butterflies. Requires little moisture and grows in almost any soil. When used as a green manure, buckwheat can be plowed under 7 - 10 days after flowering or 30 days after sowing. If allowed to grow too large, it becames very difficult to plow in. Very sensitive to frost. Sow 60 lbs / acre .5 inches deep. |

Common Vetch is an annual legume that can be sown early in the fall or in the spring. This nitrogen fixing vine can grow 2 - 3 feet tall, providing plenty of organic matter when tilled back into the soil. Purple flowers attract beneficial insects. Plant 40 lbs to the acre. | Fava Diana |
 |
High yielding edible beans with 3.5 - 4 inch pods. Suitable for early spring or fall sowing -- they don't like heat. Nitrogen fixer. Very thick stands reputed to be impenetrable. Tolerant of temporarily waterlogged soils in winter. Winter hardy to at least 20°F. Sow = 100-125 / acre. |

| Hairy Vetch (Lana) |

A cold hardy winter cover, Hairy Vetch will withstand frozen soil if allowed to establish properly in fall. It prefers well drained soil but is somewhat flood tolerant. Fixes large quantities of nitrogen and produces a great deal of green manure. Best when used in a cereal/legume cover mix. Plant 30lb/acre 1 inch deep. |

Grows rapidly in cool weather and forms a dense tall stand with a more extensive root system then other cereals. It supresses weeds well when used as a cover crop. Plant 80 - 100 lbs per acre. |

| Sweet Alyssum |

Use this annual on its own or add it to any cover crop or border mix. This dainty white blossom is know to be a great attractant for beneficial insects. Plants are 10 - 12 inches tall. Plant in spring for summer bloom. Sow 1 lb/ acre. |
